midnight pantie parade

Saturday, March 8

we would glow like fireflies on a tepid summer night
as we swung on swings, taunting flashlight who was perched
in a second story window.
the breeze was silent
our laughter was loud.
we drifted from park to park
from town to town.
always swinging and smiling and thinking outloud.

he recoiled after our lips parted.
"in the dark i could only see your eyes glowing
and i mistook you for someone else who was
curled up under the bed in another room."
it's all he had to say but he replied with
"i can't remember."
and so did i.
"i can't remember."
just to put things in the past.
but who wouldn't remember
a warm kiss on a simple
september evening
in the middle of nowhere?

Sunday, March 2

napoleon in his bathtub.

i had this soap once made out
of goats milk and you smelled like
that. like soft waxy
barely there skin and invisible
hairs. like the sound of
a plane flying low in the
distance. like the scent of
writing (poems about you) in the dark.
it is not secret, this silence.

Don't you Even think about it.
