midnight pantie parade

i love you laura.

Tuesday, July 29

two

there is a star
retreating
into a long and straight
line, as if its moving
and straining to stand
still in a moment
the same
stretched across
the rearview mirror
but its the cold
distance of a truck
headlight along the two
in the morning
highway instead
drilling into the black
center of my eye from
the endlessly negative
space around it
a curving mirror
edge and the crisply
delicate night sky
where the trees
and the sky meet
but do not end
and blur together so
nobody knows where to
break them in half.
this beacon
following us down
the road, slipping
away as we pull out
over the other cusp earth
down towards a plowing
gray asphalt that
curves like a river
through maine
and through me
weaving and sculpted
and parting the trees
in a dramatic mess
something is lost
and cannot be found
in the hairline split
where a pattern
becomes a starpath
and the mirror comes
to understand me ever.

Don't you Even think about it.
